Spring is almost sprung, and here we are with a release announcement from Little Rocket Records. An Ode to Upper Management is the debut full length from Leeds band, Daves. Not to be confused with Florida punk supergroup Too Many Daves, of course. Daves were formed in 2016, but that’s not to say that they’ve been around constantly for 10 years – I believe there was a fairly chunky hiatus until the other year. In fact, I saw one of their returns to the live arena at The Key Club around that time, I think supporting Clowns? I can’t bloody remember.
Daves are described thusly: “a three-piece high energy punk band from Leeds, UK ready to take on the world. Challenging the status quo through confrontational lyrics and loud, fast but thought-provoking music, daring you to join them as comrades.” The Daves line-up is Daniel Drinkwater on guitar and vocals; Zach Chipp on the drums; and Jared Webb on bass and vocals. No doubt they’ll be looking for gigs soon, so any promoters out there, give them a yo, innit.

The title of this 9 track debut album, An Ode to Upper Management, is a nod to the band members’ better halves for their continuous support. It also serves as a reference to the challenges we face through the various hierarchical structures people have to operate within and navigate through and around in this purgatory we know as modern life. Indeed, you can listen to a cut from the album, “Fools United” on the bandcamp player below; a song which challenging the political and capitalist establishment.
To further wet your whistles ahead of release, we have a video for Elmo, another cut from the album, which serves as lead single. It’s themed around the struggles that many of us face with depression and mental health more generally. Seems that there’s a lot more of us that fall into that shitty bucket these days. Or maybe that we talk about it a bit more. But yeah.
An Ode to Upper Management was recorded at Lapwing Studios (Empire State Bastard, Lonely the Brave). The album hyas been mixed & mastered by Jack Bennett (Lonely the Brave, GrumbleBee).
You can pre-order the CD today from the Little Rocket Records bandcamp page – it’s expected to ship around 1st March or there abouts!
