After years of kicking around the scene playing in various bands, the gravitational pull of the earth brought together this group of punk rock veterans to form Jacksonville Florida’s Tides in 2023.
Since their inception, the word has been spreading like a wildfire, seeing Tides share the stage with punk rock stalwarts such as Alkaline Trio, Hot Water Music, The Subhumans, New Junk City, The Iron Roses, Spares, and Tiltwheel to name but a few.
Tides had their debut release back in 2023, not long after forming. This arrived in the form of a split twelve-inch record with the Golf War via A.D.D Records. For the split, Tides recorded seven songs of genre-crossing punk rock recalling the likes of Touché Amore, Fiddlehead, Iron Chic, Flatliners, Hot Water Music, Samiam, and Ways Away. This release saw them carving their own niche in the scene by foregrounding their own bold take on tried and tested sounds.
Fast forward to the winter of 2025, when Tides headed back into the studio for what would become their first full length recording as a band. The process was lengthy, with countless hours spent grinding it out in the studio, ironing out the creases and buffing the edges smooth until their vision took shape. The end result of these studio sessions was eleven cohesive tracks that develop the earlier sound into something bringing to mind genre classics such as Small Brown Bike‘s The Riverbed and The Artist in the Anbulance by Thrice, showcasing both melodic punk sensibilities with bold flourishes of metallised post hardcore. The album was recorded and mixed by Paul Lapinski, before being mastered at punk rock institution, The Blasting Room; the end result is How to Survive a Fall.
