Ugly Criers ‘Kick Down the Ladder’ video premiere

Apathy and Exhaustion is proud to reveal the ‘Kick Down the Ladder’ video premier from UGLY CRIERS, which is lifted from their forthcoming debut LP, ‘Catching Spiders’ which due out soon via Little Rocket Records.

Ugly Criers are a three-piece punk band from Sunderland, and feature Greg Robson of Bear Trade, a band with a really strong back catalogue that’s well worth investigating. Rob comments that ‘Kick down the Ladder’ is “an energetic lament, a lesson that you’ll probably meet all those people again on the way back down. So, you probably should be nicer.” Wise words from those that have been burned or done the burning maybe? In the eternal words of crappy gangsta rappers Cypress Hill, what go around come around, kid. Or something.

Just what is Greg making in that pan, though. Is it warm Sugar Puffs, like?

With reference to the forthcoming album, ‘Catching Spiders’ is a simple offering of ten songs about coping as a parent, relationship woes and struggling with the toys in your own head. I’m sure there’s a lot of us that can probably relate to that. The parenting game is not a perpetual bed of roses, despite whatever impression those immaculately turned out mums you see on the school run might project. Yes, I do fit more in to that camp of scruffy dishevelled and sleep deprived parents that you see on that sitcom Motherland… Probably worse though, let’s be real.

Ugly Criers lyrics are pulled from the poetry of drummer, Nina Mackie and the head of guitarist Greg Robson. With music crafted from what only comes with three core instruments, drums, bass and guitar: thrashing it out in a sweaty basement. The sound is honest, simple and hard. Can’t say faire than that. All we need and want is three (four at a push) chords and the truth, afterall.

‘Catching Spiders’ was recorded at Rocket Studios, over three days in July 2025 by Graeme Philiskirk (Roach Squad, Leatherface, Medictation). You’ll be able to see / hear more from the album in due course, and quite likely on this very site.

Ugly Criers are:
Luke Garnham – Bass
Nina Mackie –Drums
Greg Robson – Guitar / Vocals

Ugly Criers are playing out live in the near future for their first gigs, so if you are in the area and find yourself at a loose end, get down to one of these:
22.11 Sunderland, Ship ISIS
7.12 Newcastle, Trillians
